Emily's practice Glimmer State Of Mind is out-of-network with all insurances and private pay.
Why would I choose private pay for mental health therapy when it is covered by my health insurance?
1) Privacy. When you see Emily private pay she and you can agree that she keep minimum medical records. You also have the option to request that all signed consent forms, intake questionnaires, psychometric measures, initial assessment & progress notes are kept on paper and not in the electronic medical record system. Note: Legally, psychotherapists are required to keep all records for seven years after a person discharges therapy. Records are either kept on a HIPAA compliant electronic medical record system or in a paper file folder in a locked filing cabinet in a secure location. Records will be securely destroyed after 7 years.
2) No diagnosis is required. Emily and you can discuss what mental health diagnosis you meet criteria for but it will not be listed in your medical chart. This discussion is helpful to give a person language to what they are experiencing and is a roadmap for how to proceed with treatment. Note: Insurance requires a diagnosis from the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders DSM-5 to determine whether your treatment is medically necessary.
3) More flexibility with the types of treatment you receive.
The body of research in the mental health as it relates to treating trauma is improving quickly. Now we can actually see the changes in research participants brains after receiving certain types of psychotherapy. This is exciting because in previous years most evidence was measured through self report using psychometric measures or simple vital signs; now with medical advancements in MRI technology we can also track neurological changes. Insurance may take time to approve payment for newer psychotherapies, an example of this is Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR).
Payment: A credit card or current HSA card is required in the client portal for payments, your credit card with be charged after each completed session. sing your HSA card to pay for psychotherapy services does not require a diagnosis.
After payment is received, a super bill to submit to your health insurance for reimbursement can be provided. Note that submitting a super bill to health insurance will require diagnosis and give insurance right to request your medical records as needed for their review. Submitting a super bill is not a guarantee service and you will need to discuss your out-of-network benefit as well as submission process with your health insurance company.
Cancelation policy: there is a no-show / late cancel fee of $180 if appointments are canceled with less than 24 hours notice. The card on file will be charged if there is a no-show or late cancel appointment.
